me = mi
so i am me.
the me that is mine is also me.
the me that i think of is me too.
the fact that i am me that too is mine.

Moving between forms and across disciplines,
this is a performance where drawing and dance melt into each other.
A line appears, disappears. A gesture begins, dissolves.
Rhythm moves through the shadow, through the skin.
The ‘me’ in front of me is breathing.
It is not about telling, but tracing—
what is felt, what escapes.

The piece begins with a solitary figure observing her own shadow.
She studies its color, its texture, its weight—wondering if it truly belongs to her.
In a quiet, meditative dialogue, she confronts herself.
A story unfolds, not in words, but in movement.
Each gesture becomes a question. Each pause, a moment of listening.
She seeks a confirmation, a grounding sense
that what she sees,
what she feels, is truly her.
dancing drawing project : me = mi
the piece combining dance and drawing was created by hinako yukimoto.
on July 6, 2025, the premiere
performance of me = mi took place
outdoors in nature, in Harlingen, in collaboration with japanese pianist Kanako Inoue.
the performance featured both improvised piano and a piece by Bach— the French Sarabande.
amid the sounds of the wind and birds, the performances was transformed into a dialogue with the natural world, resonating with its surrounding.
hinako yukimoto reflects :
"i often feel the need to pause and ask-me, how is mi?
what's happening in that quiet space inside you?
in me = mi, i speak to myself — the one reflected back at me,
like a shadow, a double, a quiet layer
beneath.
with this piece,
i invite the audience into that gentle moment, where me and mi can listen to each other."
